Cheryl Cricks

She was born in Ontario, Canada, on December 11, 1950. Her parents were Clarence and Margaret (Chenowith) Schipper. Clarence was a Dutch Reformed and Presbyterian minister. In 1959, they left Canada and moved to Oakley, Kansas. During her childhood, they also served in Lyndon and Newton, Kansas. Cheryl graduated from Newton High School and went on to attend Sheldon Jackson College in Sitka, Alaska. She completed her bachelor's degree at Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas. During her college years, she spent a semester abroad in Salzburg, Austria and was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. After graduation she spent several years teaching. She also worked as an archivist for the National Institutes of Health and a U.S. Army contracting officer. Cheryl married James R. Cricks in 1984 in Pennsylvania. As a military family, they lived in duty stations including Germany, Virginia, Texas, Pennsylvania, Kansas, and Belgium. Cheryl enjoyed being an active member and historian for the Protestant Women of the Chapel. After James retired from the military, they remained in Europe, living in Stuttgart until 2007 when they returned to Kansas. Cheryl was an active member of the Episcopal Church and the Leavenworth literary society (The Philomathean Club). She was an avid reader who also enjoyed traveling, working in her small garden, and needlework. In addition to her husband she is survived by two daughters, Christine Juve of Belton, MO and Hillary (Benjamin) Anderson of Lansing, KS, one son, Chase (Jennifer) Anderson of Lakewood, CO.
