Chester Lee Osborn

Chester Lee Osborn, 89, died Thursday, December 22, 2022, at Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. He was born May 10, 1933, in Kingman, KS, to Mr. Seth P. and Edna (Greenbank) Osborn. His father was a veteran of World War I and taught school for many years in Little River, Kingman, Halstead, Geneseo and at Fort Dodge. The family moved to Dodge City in 1943, where Chet went to high school and lettered in Tennis. He and Patricia J. (Murray) Osborn were united in marriage on July 26, 1953. He graduated from Southwestern College in 1955. Chester was a 1959 graduate of Drew Seminary in New Jersey and was ordained a Methodist Minister in the Central Kansas Conference. He later earned his Doctor of Ministry from the Saint Paul School of Theology Methodist in 1977. Together, Chet and Pat were a parsonage family in Winfield, KS, Parsippany, NJ, Oxford, KS, Newton, KS, Salina, KS, Derby, KS, Wichita, KS, Hutchinson, KS and retired back to Newton, KS. After Patricia?s death in 2016, Chester moved to Dallas, TX.

Chester?s passions were his ministry, family, and golf. His first sermon is preserved on a vinyl record for his children to hear and wonder at his life-long passion for preaching. Chester served as Senior Pastor, District Superintendent and Council of Ministries Director in the Kansas West Conference. However, Trinity Heights United Methodist Church in Newton, Kansas, followed closely by Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas, have the most special memories and friends. His passion for golf was kindled while in seminary as he bought his first set of clubs for $12 from Montgomery Wards. This passion also continued for life as he ?shot his age? many times after he was 80. After he retired, Chester stayed active and led many Educational Opportunity Tours to the Holy Land and Greece so many parishioners could walk in the footsteps of Jesus and the journeys of the Apostle Paul with their pastor.

He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia; and survived by their children, Phillip and his wife, Trissie, of Dallas, TX, Susan Osborn of Mission, KS, Douglas and his wife, Nicole of Omaha, NE. All together there are seven grandsons, two granddaughters, plus two great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters. Chester is also preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Evelyn Kessinger in Mulvane, and Carol Longton in Dodge City. A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Trinity Heights United Methodist Church in Newton, Kansas. Inurnment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery Columbarium. Memorials are suggested to the Trinity Heights United Methodist Church Foundation.
