Rudolph A.C. Steffen

Death Notice

Private Rudolph A.C. Steffen, Co. C, 313th Engineers, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Steffen of Newton, died of influenza in France on September 30, 1918.

Locals. Rudolph Steffen resigned from the Santa Fe Railroad company yesterday and is preparing to answer his call in the draft sometime shortly after May 25. The Newton Evening Kansan-Republican, Newton, Kansas. Friday, May 17, 1918. Page 8.

Rudolph Steffen Died of Pneumonia. Mr. and Mrs. John Steffen, of 328 SW 3rd Street, have just received a message from the acting adjutant general at Washington, carrying the sad news of the death of their son, Rudolph Steffen, who died of pneumonia on Sept. 30, while in service in France. No other details were given in the brief message, and friends of the family as well as the Red Cross will take up the matter with a view to learning where the young man died and other facts related to the death.

Rudolph was employed by the Welsh Transfer Company here when he enlisted in the Engineers June 1, 1918. He was a fine boy and his death will be a source of particular sorrow to many friends who knew him best. The Evening Kansan-Republican, Newton, Kansas. Friday, October 18, 1918. Page 1.
