James Edward Taylor

Death Notice

Eddie Taylor Dies Of Flu In France.

A telegraphic message came to Mrs. Link Phares Monday, that her brother James Edward Taylor had died in France October 10th of influenza.  The message had been sent to their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Zachariah Taylor at Cottonwood Falls, but the latter were visiting Mrs. Phares at the time at Newton and were enroute to Halstead to visit another daughter, Mrs. Floyd Utz and the message was phoned her.

Eddie, as he was always called went to Camp Funston in May.  He was in the Depot brigade.  He made his home in Newton for 6 years, working most of the time with Mr. Phares in contract cement work.  He had made his home with Mrs. H.I. Albright during the whole time, and was as one of the family and it was from her home that he enlisted.

His death adds another golden star to the galaxy that marks the sacrifice of young men who gave their lives in Army service, going to the call of their country, to the ranks.  The Newton Journal, Newton, Kansas.  Friday, November 29, 1918.  Page 1.  (c) Harvey County Genealogical Society.
