James J. Norton Dies In Newton. James J. Norton, 77, Newton's oldest business man and nationally known in Masonic circles, died at his home there this morning.
Mr. Norton had been in the monument business there for 59 years. For the past 50 years he had been a leader in Masonic circles and had been a presiding officer in all the Masonic bodies in Newton. He was also a member of the Wichita Consistory. he was known as an expert drill master and was co-author of drill regulations which was adopted nationally by the Knights Templar.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret; four sons, James G., at home; Lyle H., Colorado Springs; and Merle A. and Meuel of Newton. Funeral services will be announced by the Morris mortuary. The Wichita Beacon, Wichita, Kansas. Thursday, August 5, 1943. Page 3.
