Florence Melba (Bishop) McLinden

FLORENCE MELBA MCLINDEN

 Littleton - Florence Melba McLinden passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of May 26, 2024. Florence was born on August 3, 1929, to Frank and Bessie Bishop. She graduated from Emporia High School in 1946 and enrolled in Emporia State Teachers College. After her freshman year, she obtained her teacher's certificate and began her career, teaching in one room schools. On June 4th, 1953 she married Robert T McLinden. The couple moved to Newton and began their life together. After teaching a few years in rural Kansas, Florence began teaching 5th grade at St. Mary's Parochial School. When her daughter, Roberta, reached 5th grade, she decided to leave St. Mary's. A few years later, she began working at McKinley as the school secretary. Florence continued working in the school system until she retired in 1994. She moved to Littleton, Colorado after the death of her husband to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. During her life, she enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, square dancing, reading, and later in life, working her word searches. Florence is survived by her daughter, Roberta (Craig) Schuster, Littleton, Colorado; grandchildren Andrew, Longmont, Colorado and Hannah, Littleton, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert, her parents, two brothers; Dwight and Harold, and one sister; Jean Berrie. Private family burial will be held on Saturday, July 6 at Greenwood Cemetary in Emporia. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Memorials may be made in her name to Magic Moments Theater Company at MagicMomentsinc.org. Florence Melba McLinden
