HOWARD DON SCHMIDT Howard Don Schmidt, age 85, died June 18, 2024 at Schowalter Villa in Hesston, Kansas. He was born to Herman and Susie (Unruh) Schmidt at Salem Hospital in Hillsboro, Kansas on July 14, 1938. He graduated from Lehigh High School. Howard married Margaret Phillips of Dennis, Kansas. They were married on October 19, 1958. To this union were Teresa (Larry) Goodwin, Burns, KS, Jeff (Lynette) Schmidt, Florence, KS, Robert Schmidt (Lori Makovec), Florence, KS, Melissa Snesrud (Shad Winter), Eldorado, KS. 19 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. After Margaret passed. He married Norma Mohn on January 8, 1994. Added children Shari (Frank) Prescher, Chapman, KS, Mike (Julie) Mohn, Abilene, KS, Shawn Strunk, Abilene, KS, Erin (Anthony) Dilks, Hesston, KS, 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Howard loved working and showing horses. Raising dogs. A leader and supporter of 4-H. Attended First Church of God in Newton. Spending time with family. He is preceded by his parents. Sister Luella Bartel and brothers Eldon Schmidt and Willis Schmidt. 2 nieces Beverly Schmidt and Gayle Schmidt. He is survived by his wife. His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Stepchildren, step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Sister-in-law Marilyn Schmidt, Newton, KS. Many nieces and nephews. Celebration of Life is July 13, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. Crossings Community Church, 620 Fairview Ave, Newton, KS. Private burial at Haven of Rest Cemetery, Hillsboro, KS.
