Alvin "Junior" Schmidt, 64, died Sunday (Aug. 25, 2002) at Kansas Christian Home. He was born Jan. 29, 1938, to Alvin R. Sr. and Mable H. (Schroeder) Schmidt in Emporia. They preceded him in death. He married Catherine Wherrell Feb. 7, 1959, in Newton. She survives of the home. He was a truck driver and welder during his working career. He had most recently worked for Dillon's in Wichita. Other survivors include: two sons, Daniel Schmidt of Wichita and Jerry Schmidt of Newton; three daughters, Sandra Mills and Sonia Tingen, both of Newton, and LaDena Self of Watertown, N.Y.; a sister, Evelyn Yackle of Newton; and seven grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Wilson.
Visitation will be until 5 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday with family greeting friends from 6:30 8 p.m. Wednesday, al at Petersen Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Petersen Funeral Home with the Rev. John Chance of First Pentecostal Church in Wichita officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with Kansas Christian Home in care of the funeral home.
