Nancy Chapman Hampton

Nancy Chapman Hampton, 88, retired WSU music instructor, pianist, organist, mother, grandmother, and naturalist died Thursday, November 16, 2023. Nancy was born in Newton, Kansas on January 20, 1935, and lived there her first 20 years. The next thirty were spent in Dodge City where she and Jim Hampton raised their three children. She then moved to Wichita.

Nancy was proceeded in death by her parents, Melvin and Bessie Chapman; brother, Robert Carl Chapman and his wife Helen. Survivors include her children, David Hampton (Frances), Dana Hampton and Gayle Robinson (Robin); and grandchildren, LT Erica Hampton, James Hampton and Anthony Hampton, Abbey Ward (TSgt Cory Ward) and Charlie Fee. Other survivors include a nephew, Robert Carl Jr.; a niece, Kathy Stinnett, and many extended family members and friends. A special furry companion, her cat Buddy, also survives.

Nancy loved music, reading, working in her yard, listening to or telling funny stories and exercising at the Y. Above all, Nancy appreciated seeing her three children and five grandchildren become loving, caring, responsible adults who are all contributing to making the world into which they were born, a better place.

Visitation will be from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Friday, December 1, 2023, at Downing & Lahey West Mortuary. Private family graveside will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Newton, Kansas. A memorial has been established with: Leukemia & Lymphoma Society P.O. Box 22324, New York, NY 10087.
