Rachel Tejeda, 89, passed away September 9, 2024 at Saint Luke's North Hospital. She was born February 10, 1935 to Epimenio "Epi" J. and Angela (Sifuentez) Gomez in Newton,
KS. She was a 1953 graduate of Newton High School in Newton. Following graduation, she attended business college and had a successful career at JI Case as an administrative assistant, getting promoted to executive secretary.
She also worked at Cessna and Collins Avionics, a division of Rockwell, from which she retired. On May 21, 1955, Rachel was united in marriage to Arthur A. Tejeda at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton. The couple
briefly relocated to Arthur's home state of California. Due to her love and dedication to her family, they returned to the state of Kansas, calling Wichita home. They were blessed with a son, Arthur Jr. She and her husband
found a lot of joy in raising their child together. They took annual vacations to California to visit family, going to the beaches, Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm and the San Francisco Wharf. Rachel loved spending time
with her family, siblings and extended family members and made it a tradition to get together annually with her siblings. She had many hobbies, including cactus and flower gardening, silk flower arranging, collecting religious
statues, cooking Mexican food, watching her novellas, and baking cakes to celebrate co-workers' birthdays. In 2003, she relocated to Kansas City to live with her son and daughter-in-law, anticipating the arrival of her
granddaughter. She formed a wonderful bond with her granddaughter as she cared for her when her son and daughter-in-law returned to work. Rachel is survived by her son, Arthur Jr. (Maureen), granddaughter, Catie, sisters Josie
Sandoval and Angie Gomez, many nieces, nephews and godchildren plus two amazing dogs, Quinlan and Amber. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur, Sr., sister, Josefina Gomez, her parents, sister Mollie Solorza, brother
Carlos Gomez, brother-in-law Gilbert Roman, Sr. and brother-in-law Marv Odefey. All services in Kansas City will be held at St. Therese Catholic Church on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. The Visitation will be at 10:00 am, the Rosary
will be prayed at 11:00 am and the Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 am. Fr. Randy Sly will preside. A Committal service and burial will take place Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at the Resthaven Gardens of
Memory in Wichita at 11:00AM.
