Marlys M. Stone, 92, of Newton, died Thursday (September 12, 2024) at Paramount Community Living and Rehab. She was born on May 22, 1932 in Hankinson, North Dakota, the daughter of Harold
and Martha Faulk Polfuss. She graduated high school in North Dakota. Marlys met Donald C. Stone, her future husband, when he attended North Dakota State School of Science. They were married on September 6, 1953 in Hutchinson.
They moved to Lyons, KS, then Wichita and Hutchinson for a short time until moving to Newton in 1957. Marlys worked at North Newton Coop, Cunningham's, Midland Bank and First Bank of Newton. She was a teller at First Bank
of Newton and became acquainted with many Newton residents. She retired from First Bank of Newton after over 20 years. Marlys and Donald were members of Peace Lutheran Church. They enjoyed spending time in Coloardo, taking
train rides and fishing. They especially enjoyed attending Hydro Boat Races. In later years, she was an avid fan of KU basketball and Royals baseball. Marlys was most importantly a grandmother. Many sleepovers were had at
her home. She enjoyed picking up the children from school and taking them to McDonald's for french fries. Other memories include playing Yahtzee and trips to Alco. There was nothing she wouldn't do for her grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons Lowell Stone of Walton and Russell Stone; daughter Debra Caliendo and husband Scott of Newton; sister Shirley Lund of Fargo, North Dakota; her grandchildren Jason Stone, Nicole Health, Amanda Cowley,
Kayla Hiebert, Jessica Laney, and Cody Stone; and great grandchildren, Mackenzie Redger, Emma Hiebert, Max Hiebert, Maci Williams, Layla Williams, RaeLynn Cowley, Addyson Cowley, Remington Cowley, Finnleigh Stone and Kaleb
Stone. Marlys is preceded in death by husband Donald Stone, parents Harold and Martha Polfuss and sister Elaine Hoff. Graveside services and interment will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday (September 18, 2024) at Restlawn Gardens
of Memory outside of Newton. The family wishes to give a special thank you to the staff at Paramount Living Community and Good Shepherd Hospice. She lived at Paramount for the final two years of her life. The staff at Paramount
