Nathaniel ?Nat? McGee, Jr., 86, of Newton, Kansas, died Friday, November 15, 2024 at the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center of Ascension Via Christi Medical Center-St. Francis
Campus in Wichita, Kansas.
He was born on February 28, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Nathaniel and Mary Elizabeth (Martin) McGee, Sr. Nat was raised in the Chicago area and after high school served in the
U. S. Army. He later graduated from the University of Chicago with a Bachelor Degree.
While stationed in Germany, Nat met Helga Molch. They were married and returned to Chicago where he went to work for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad. He later transferred to Tecumseh,
Kansas before moving to Newton in 2000.
He enjoyed being part of the Silver Sneaker Group at the Newton YMCA. Additionally, he had a passion for classic cars and was an avid collector, especially of model trains.
Survivors include his son Nathaniel J. McGee of Newton; brother Hubert ?Mick? McGee of Decorah, IA; and sister Mary Ellen Rounds of Palos Heights, IL.
Nat is preceded in death by his parents, wife Helga and life partner Virginia Lovell.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, at First United Methodist, 801 N. Main St., Newton, KS. Inurnment will be at Greenwood Cemetery 1100 E 1st St., Newton, KS.
