Maurice Wayne Hind, at the age of 77, passed away on October 11, 2024. Maurice was born to Maurice B. Hind and Lois Hind on Wednesday, December 18, 1946 in Newton, KS. He was the eldest
of five children, Judy, Robert, Michael, and Sherry. Maurice graduated from Newton High School in May 1964 and enlisted in the U.S. Army a few days later. He served two tours in Southeast Asia, Thailand, and Vietnam. He later
served with eh Army Reserve and National Guard, serving a total of 27 years. He was a police officer for 33 years serving on the Newton Police Department. Maurice had 20 years and 3 months on the railroads, 21 and a half as
a railroad special agent and 8 years and 9 months as a freight conductor with Union Pacific Railway. He held a degree from Oklahoma State University in Police Science. He was a life member of the NRA, National Sporting Clays
Association and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Maruice was an avid competitive shooter of rifle, pistol, shotgun, and archery. Winning awards in all as well as teaching others. Maurice married the love of his life, Valla Wilson
Summers in Roswell, NM on May 29, 1982. He leaves his wife, Val behind after 42 years, 3 children: Jeff Hind of Lakeside, AZ, Chase Summers of Derby, KS, Channing Bennett of Wichita, KS; brother Mike (Anita) Hind of Peabody,
KS; sister Sherry Hind of Newton, KS; 4 granddaughters: Kaylee (Kyle) Taylor of AZ, McKenna Summers of Wichita, KS, Kinsley and Kyndal Bennett of Wichita, KS and one great-granddaughter, Ellie Taylor of AZ; numerous nieces
and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Maurice was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, a wonderful listener and always offered his wisdom to anyone that asked. He taught both young and old how to shoot and how to
do it safely. He loved a good joke and laughed easily. Maurice loved his country; he was a conservative and felt very deeply about the direction of this country. He was extremely compassionate for his fellow soldiers and veterans.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 22, at 2pm at Carlson Colonial Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Disabled Veteran National Foundation, Shriner?s Children?s
