Polly Nightingale died on January 6, 2025.
She was born in Spearville, Kansas to Leo and Edna (Laudick) Herman on December 21,1932. She graduated from Spearville High School and Halstead Nursing School. She worked at Halstead Hospital
for 40 years as a Registered Nurse. On June 27, 1955, she married Richard ?Red? Nightingale. She was proceeded in death by her husband, parents, sibling Cleo Mae Stegman, in-laws Gene Stegman, Lawrence Scheve,
and Duane Askew. Survivors include her siblings Ken (Shirley) Herman, Mary Lou Scheve, Janice Askew, and David Herman, children Pam (Greg) Maher, Sherrie (Norm) Kelly, Dick (Teresa) Nightingale, Phil (Mary) Nightingale, Jana
(Tony) Barry, grandchildren Luke (Kathleen) Maher, Ben (Lauren) Maher, Sam (Alexa) Maher, Bryan (Kay) Kelly, Jessie (John) Martens, Anne Kelly, Sarah (Jerad) Stock, Scott Nightingale, Jake Nightingale, Ellie (Sam) Heim, Brogan
(Katie) Barry, Addison (Matt) McLaughlin, great grandchildren Norah, Jane, and Frannie Maher, Rylee and Miles Maher, Nolan, Jack, and baby Maher, Henry and William Kelly, Sloane, Julia, and Thomas Martens, Kate and Connor
Stock, Rosie Barry, and baby McLaughlin. Polly was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Altar Society, American Legion Auxiliary, Halstead Nurse?s Association, and Scarlett O?Hara Red Hat Ladies.
She enjoyed sharing her chocolate chip cookies and brownies with her family, neighbors, and friends, and kept a candle burning at church for those with special intentions.
Polly chose to give her body to science at The University of Kansas. Memorial Mass will be said at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Halstead, on January 13. Visitation with the family will
be at 10 a.m. A Rosary will be said at at 10:30 followed by Mass at 11 a.m. The family suggests memorials to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or the American Legion Auxiliary in care of Kaufman Funeral Home.
