Gottlieb Wolter was born in Gruppe, West Prussia, Germany, March 9, 1857. In childhood he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church. While still living in Germany he was united in
marriage with Amelia Schultz. They came to America in the year 1890, settling here in Newton where Mr. Wolter has since resided with the exception of four years spent in Canada. Mrs. Wolter passed away September 10, 1916.
Mr. Wolter was a carpenter by trade and erected a number of the residences in the city. He as a good mechanic and his work was the very best. Since 1922 he has been employed in the Santa
Fe shops as wood machinst.
He passed away at the Santa Fe hospital at Mulvane Sunday evening, July 20, at 7:30.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Johann Wolter Lust of Endicott, Washington and three sons: G. A. Walters, and Carl H. Walters of Newton and Paul G. Walters of Los Angeles, California.
Also eighteen grandchildren and other relatives.
The funeral service was held at the Duff and Son Funeral Parlor Thursday morning at 10 o?clock. Rev. C. F. Hartmann of the Evangelical church had charge of the service assisted by
Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Hawley, Mrs. La Rue Duff, Mrs. Norman Ralph and Robert Duff, as musicians.
The casket bearers were Fred Scheffler, Ed Travis, Carl Vogel, Rudolph Schirrmacher, L. Jacobs, and Tony Kuhl.
Interment was in Greenwood cemetery,
