Alida F. Bartel
ROCKFORD, Ill. --Alida F. Bartel, 85, former Moundridge resident, died Tuesday (April 2, 1996) at the Swedish American Hospital in Rockford.
She was born Sept. 23, 1910, in Moundridge to John D Stucky and Tille Schrag Stucky. She married Leonard R. Bartel on Aug. 8, 1937, in Moundridge. He survives.
She attended Bethel College and began her teaching career in small rural schools in the Moundridge area. She graduated from Bradley University in Peoria, Ill., then teaching the first grade in several schools in the Peoria area, principally in Bartonville, until her retirement. She lived in Peoria for more than 50 years. She was a member of the Mount Olive Missionary Church where she was active in the Sunday school program as a teacher and superintendent, deaconess and participated in Mission circles, Community Bible classes and Child Evangelism Good News Clubs. She was a member of the First Evangelical Free Church in Rockford, Ill.
Other survivors include two sons, Donald of Freeville, N. Y. and Darrell of Rockford; one daughter, Carol Brainerd of Pasadena, Calif.; three sisters, Agnes, Dorothy and Betty; five brothers, Art, Oliver, Roland, Melvin, and LeRoy; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; and an exchange student from Jamaica, She was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer and Ralph Reuben; and a sister, Esther Mae.
The funeral was at 1 p. m. April 6 at the Rockford Temple Salvation Army in Rockford with the Rev. Phil Geoffrion and Major Daniel Sjogren officiating. Burial was in Arlington Memorial Park.
