Sara Aileen Gunnels
Sara Aileen Gunnels, 91, of Newton died today (April 4, 1996) at Friendly Acres Retirement Community.
She was born July 13, 1904, in Eureka Springs, Ark., to Virgil L. McComb and Mary Lawrence McComb. She married George W. Gunnels on Dec. 15, 1923, in Eureka Springs, Ark. He died Dec. 28, 1970.
She was a retired sales clerk for JC Penney and Cunninghams, both in Newton. She graduated from Eureka Springs High School and moved to Newton in 1942. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Newton.
Survivors include three sons, Charles of Goddard, Clifton of Hutchinson and Lawrence of Pass Christian, Miss.; one brother, Virgil McComb of California; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one infant daughter and four brothers.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Greenwood Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday and until 1 p.m. Saturday at Petersen's Funeral Home.
