Verlin McPheeters

Verlin "Mac" McPheeters, was born on August 11th, 1947 in Kingman, Kansas to Virgil and Marie (Blank) McPheeters. Mac attended Kingman High School where he played all sports but his favorite was basketball as a point guard.

After graduation Mac enlisted in the United States Air Force where he became a crew chief. He was then sent to Vietnam to repair fighter aircrafts damaged during combat. After returning home from war he was stationed in Texas at Sherman Air Force Base where he became a Staff Sergeant. He was then transferred Cannon Air Force base in Clovis, New Mexico where he fulfilled his military obligation and was honorably discharged.

Upon returning home, Mac, set up residence in Kansas City, Missouri where he began working in construction building sewer lines for the city. This quickly encouraged him to go to college. Mac enrolled at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, where he earned his degree in Ag business and began working for Production Credit Association. In 1976 he met Jeri Bergling and in 1978 they were united in marriage in Colby, Kansas. In 1979 they welcomed a son, Casey. Mac remained at Production Credit Association until he retired in 2006. In 2015 he and Jeri moved from Colby, Kansas to Newton, Kansas to be closer to their daughter Jennifer.

Mac was an avid outdoors man. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, and golf. Golf was his main passion. He would golf 2-3 times a week. If he wasn't playing golf he was helping with tournaments. He was always someone you could count on. He would drop whatever he was doing to go help someone if they called. Especially if it was to play golf.

Mac passed away August 5, 2024 in Wichita, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by this parents Virgil McPheeters, Marie Egan, Step-Father Donald Egan, and son Casey McPheeters.

He is survived by his wife Jeri of Newton, Kansas, Daughter Jennifer Cousins (Jessica) of Park City, KS. Sister Kay (Joe) Beat of Mountain Home, Arkansas. Brother-in-law Richard (Susan) Bergling of Hoisington, Kansas. David (Sherry) Bergling of Oberlin, Kansas and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and community.

A celebration of Life will be held at City Limits Conference Center, 2227 S. Range Ave, Colby, Kansas next to the Comfort Inn on September 28th at 2pm.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in memory of Verlin "Mac" McPheeters. Market, Wichita, Kansas 67202, or contributions can be made at his Celebration of Life gathering.
