Darla J. Martin, 80, of Hesston passed away Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025, at Pine Village. She was born on Jan. 27, 1945, in Moundridge to Cornelius Henry and Alverta (Nightingale) Schmidt.
She attended Stone School in Newton.
She was united in marriage to Luke Z. Martin on Dec. 15, 1968, in Hesston.
Darla was a member of the Meridian Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, rural Hesston.
She was a devoted homemaker and childcare provider.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Luke Martin of Hesston; daughters, Celesta (Lance) Derksen of Moundridge and Joy (Dave) Litwiller of Hillsboro; sons, Sylvan (Sherri) Martin of
Tonasket, Wash., Michael (Jewel) Martin of Tonasket, Wash., Dani (Becky) Martin of Dardanelle, Ark., and Joe Martin of Hesston; daughter-in-law, Erin Martin of Hesston; sister, Rosalie (Daniel) Koehn of Halstead; brothers-in-law,
Conrad Yost of Iroquois, S.D., and Ordo Holdeman of Versailles, Mo.; sisters-in-law, Vada Schmidt of Brooksville, Miss., Verna Schmidt of Brooksville, Miss., Mary Martin of New Holland, Pa., and Alta Martin of Ephrata, Pa.;
25 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Darla was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; three sisters; six sisters-in-law; six brothers-in-law; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, at the Meridian Mennonite Church, Hesston. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends called from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday,
Feb. 5, at the Moundridge Funeral Home, with family greeting friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the church.
