Catherine "Cathy" Alberta Schmidt
Catherine Wherrell Schmidt died peacefully May 24, 2024 in Newton, Kansas. She was born on August 7, 1942 to John and Alvena Wherrell in her home town of Newton, Ks.
Catherine "Cathy" went to St. Mary's private school until the 8th grade. She then went on to take CNA classes. Cathy was a Certified Nursing Assistant for 30 years before retiring
in 2003.
On February 7, 1959, she married Alvin Roy Schmidt. Together they had two sons and three daughters.
After retirement Catherine enjoyed spending her time with her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. She was also one to love an adventure. She went along on many family vacations with Dan,
Sonia, Brad, Jerry & Marishawn and LaDena.
One of Cathy's favorite past times was heading to Kansas City to watch a Royals game with her kids.
Whenever needed, Catherine would babysit her great-grandbabies. Each of her "little ones" have their own special fond memory from spending time with her.
Catherine had a very big heart and loved everyone with all her whole heart. She found reason to smile and laugh almost everyday. Cathy deeply loved the holidays and treasured the time with
her large family.
Survivors include sister, Delores (Gerald) Sartain, sons, Daniel (Carol) Schmidt and Jerry (Marishawn) Schmidt; daughters LaDena (Kenneth) Goff, Sonia (Brad) Buchta, as well as many grandchildren,
great-grandchildren and family.
Preceded in death is husband Alvin Roy, daughter, Sandra (David) Mills, brothers, Lloyd (Elizabeth) Wherrell, Wilbur (Marien) Wherrell and Robert (Yvonne) Wherrell, sisters, Rose (Chester)
Lindsey, her parents, John W & Alvena (Schulte) Wherrell, brother in-law Gerald Sartain, as well as two grandsons.
A visitation will be held Thursday, May 30, 2024. 5pm - 9pm. Family will be available 5pm - 8pm at Petersens Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held Friday May 31, 2024 at 2pm. At the Christ Tabernacle Church. 210 E 4th Newton, Kansas.
Memorial contributions may be made out to Petersen's Family Funeral Home to help aid in expenses.
She will be so missed. Catherine was the glue that held the family tightly together.
Cathy's family would like to thank everyone for the all of the prayers and support during the difficult time.
