Newton, Kansas

Joyce (Davis) Flickinger, age 93, went to be with the Lord on February 13th, 2025. She was born January 22nd, 1932, in Kechi, KS and lived most of her life with husband, Jake Flickinger, (deceased May 19, 2000) in Newton, KS. Together, Joyce and Jake had 6 children, 16 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren.

Joyce is remembered by many for her adventurous spirit and her service to the community. She spent decades as a Girl Scout leader enriching the lives of numerous young women. Joyce was also an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton, volunteering to help others whenever she could.

Joyce made everyone feel welcome and loved as a part of her family whether they were her own descendants, distantly related, or not related at all. Everyone was family in her eyes. She gathered with her siblings and all their ever-growing families at the Flickinger Farm near Burrton, KS each Sunday and on holidays.

Joyce is survived by four daughters and one son: Jonnie Unick, Newton, KS; Janet (Don) Cunningham, Lawerence, KS; Jeanne (Gilbert) Herrman, Peabody, KS; Jessie (Stephen) LaFoe-Brown, Newton, KS; Jake (Dana) Flickinger, Thornton, CO. She is also survived by her two sisters, Carrol (Larry) Flickinger and Leila Dalke, both of Burrton, KS.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, Rowland and Esther Davis, her husband of 48 years, Jake Flickinger, one sister, three brothers, one daughter and one great granddaughter.

The funeral at First United Methodist Church is scheduled for 11:00am on March 14, 2025, with a celebration of life luncheon to follow for family and friends. There will be no visitation. Funeral and cremation services are under the care of Broadway Colonial Funeral Home.
