Billy J Eckert Billy J. Eckert, 75, died today (Jan. 24, 2003) at Wesley Specialty Hospital in Wichita.
He was born Sept. 18, 1927, to Ernest A. and Beulah Edna (Wayline) Eckert in Hugoton. They preceded him in death. He married Edith M. Butler Nov. 17, 1946, in Kansas City, Mo. She survives of the home.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Newton. He also was a member of the Newton Eagles Lodge. He was an avid bowler in the Newton area and volunteered with Boy Scouts. He grew up in Kansas City and at age 20 moved to Hutchinson. He helped start the El Cap Credit Union in Hutchinson. He moved to Newton in 1963 to work as a dispatcher for the Santa Fe Railroad, retiring after 44 years and four months with the railroad.
Other survivors include: two sons, Billy Eckert of Neenah, Wis., and Gary L. Eckert of Wichita; a daughter, Patricia E. Snyder of Hutchinson; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Loretta Crossley and Patsy Eckert.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday with family greeting friends from 2 to 4 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Timothy Conner officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with First Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
